Origin & Legend

The Bi Mansion is the fifth of the Seven Lunar Mansions of the White Tiger of the West and is governed by the Moon, incarnating as a three-legged sacred crow. Its eight stars form a pattern resembling a net for catching hares—hence its ancient appellation ‘Celestial Net’—and it presides over frontier military affairs and rainfall prediction; the Bi Mansion is especially auspicious for rain. In Daoist tradition, it is venerated as Bi Yue Wu Xingjun. Astrological lore holds that when the Bi Mansion shines brightly, peace prevails throughout the realm and border regions remain secure. In popular worship, devotees honour Bi Yue Wu Xingjun to ensure balanced and timely rainfall and to draw blessings into the ‘celestial net’ of fortune. The Bi Mansion lies adjacent to the Mao Mansion, and together they guard the western heavens.
