Origin & Legend
Wudang Shengmu was one of Tongtian Jiaozhu’s (the Grand Master of the Jie Sect) four closest disciples and the foremost female immortal of the Jie Sect. During the Investiture of the Gods war, she fought alongside her master in major campaigns—including the Severing Sword Formation and the Myriad Immortals’ Formation—repeatedly clashing with the golden immortals of the Chan Sect. In the cataclysmic Myriad Immortals’ Formation battle, the Jie Sect suffered devastating losses: countless disciples perished or were banished, yet Wudang Shengmu alone emerged unscathed. Folklore holds that she spirited away the surviving remnants of the Jie Sect to seclusion, thereby becoming the living embodiment of Tongtian Jiaozhu’s Daoist lineage enduring beyond catastrophe. Later literary traditions further enshrined her as the indomitable symbol of the Jie Sect’s unbroken resilience after tribulation, and her name was even popularly linked—though without historical basis—to the origin of the name ‘Wudang Mountain’.
