Origin & Legend

Princess Longji is the daughter of the Queen Mother of the West (Yaochi Jinmu). For yearning after mortal life, she was banished to Qingluan Douque Hall on Fenghuang Mountain. During the Investiture of the Gods campaign, she descended to assist the Zhou forces: she deployed the Mist-and-Dew Universe Net to dismantle the Fire Formation of Luo Xuan, thereby rescuing the city of Xiqi from conflagration; later, she recognized Hong Jin’s Banner-Gate Escape Technique and captured him. The Moon-Uniting Elder declared that Hong Jin and Princess Longji shared a predestined marital bond, and the two were wed—becoming a celebrated celestial-mortal union in the Investiture of the Gods narrative. In the Battle of the Ten Thousand Immortals, both Princess Longji and her husband perished at the hands of the immortal Golden Spirit Sage-Mother. Upon the conclusion of the Investiture, she was enfeoffed as the Red Phoenix Star, entrusted with governing auspicious marriages and joyful unions in the human realm. The popular folk belief that ‘the Red Phoenix Star stirs’ during weddings originates precisely from her cult, complementing the veneration of the Matchmaker God Yue Lao.
