Origin & Legend
Huang Tianhua is the eldest son of Wu Cheng Wang Huang Feihu in the classic mythological novel Investiture of the Gods. As a child, he was taken by the Daoist Immortal Qingxu Daode Zhenjun to cultivate at Ziyang Cave on Qingfeng Mountain. Thirteen years later, he descended the mountain at his master’s behest to rescue his father, riding the jade qilin and armed with the Moye Sword, Fire Dragon Dart, and Heart-Piercing Nail. His first battle secured his imprisoned father’s release. Thereafter, he served Jiang Ziya on the Investiture of the Gods battlefield, slaying the Four Demon Generals with the Heart-Piercing Nail and earning repeated distinction—until his death at the Battle of Jinji Ridge. Upon completing the divine investiture, Jiang Ziya enfeoffed him as Bingling Gong, Upright Deity of the Three Mountains, ranking him among the highest deities on the Divine Register. In the Shandong region, particularly around Mount Tai, he is venerated as the son of Dongyue Dadi (the Eastern Peak Great Emperor), enshrined alongside him in subsidiary temples; folk tradition honours him as a youthful upright deity who bestows martial fortune and safeguards mountain realms.
