Origin & Legend
Lingbao Dafashi is one of the Twelve Golden Immortals of Kunlun Mountain, residing at Yuanyang Cave on Kongtong Mountain. During the Investiture of the Gods war, he descended the mountain alongside his fellow immortals to participate in major campaigns—including the great breaking of the Ten Utterly Devoid Arrays, the Yellow River Array, and the Myriad Immortals Array—and joined his peers in supporting Jiang Ziya’s righteous campaign to overthrow King Zhou of Shang. His title draws upon the Lingbao (Numinous Treasure) tradition of Daoism, evoking the esoteric arts and scriptures associated with the Lingbao school—an artistic personification by the novel Investiture of the Gods, which transforms Daoist sectarian lineages into celestial masters. Though the text devotes relatively little narrative space to him, he stands as a pivotal figure among the Chanjiao sect’s core adepts, bearing witness to the Jiejiao sect’s downfall and the celestial investiture of gods.
