Origin & Legend
Juliusun is one of the Twelve Golden Immortals of Kunlun Mountain and resides at the Flying Cloud Grotto on Mount Jialong, where he guards the grotto’s treasured artifact—the Immortal-Binding Rope. He takes the short-statured Turingsun as his disciple, teaching him earth-traveling techniques and mastery of the Immortal-Binding Rope. After descending the mountain, Turingsun first serves the Shang dynasty and later defects to the Zhou, repeatedly deploying the Immortal-Binding Rope to decisive effect in battle. During the Investiture of the Gods war, Juliusun personally enters the Ten Utterly Devastating Formations to destroy the Earth-Flaring Formation and uses the Immortal-Binding Rope to capture Yu Yuan. Following the conclusion of the Investiture, Juliusun abandons the Daoist path to join the Western Religion, becoming Buddha Juliusun—one of the Seven Buddhas of the Past—and stands as a quintessential literary embodiment of the syncretic fusion of Daoist and Buddhist traditions.
